Whale Alert is a real-time blockchain analytics and alert platform that monitors large cryptocurrency transactions across multiple blockchains. It aggregates data from major blockchains (like Bitcoin, Ethereum, Tron, Ripple, and more) and notifies users about big transfers of crypto funds as they happen. In essence, Whale Alert acts as an early warning system for significant market movements. Aside from alerts, Whale Alert also provides essential analytics that help with predicting the impact of alerts.

Whale Alert provides the tools needed to make informed trading decisions and which are normally only available to professional traders. Below are some was Whale Alert can benefit your trading:

  • Stay Ahead of Market Moves: by getting alerts on large transactions, you get a sense of what big players/whales are doing. For example, if you suddenly see an alert that a huge amount of Bitcoin was transferred into an exchange wallet, that could be a signal that a sell-off might be coming (whales moving coins to exchanges often precede selling). Conversely, seeing large amounts withdrawn from exchanges to private wallets might indicate accumulation or long-term holding. These signals can alert you to upcoming volatility or trend changes before news outlets catch on.
  • Inform Your Trading Strategy: combining Whale Alert’s data with your own analysis can refine your strategy. Let’s say you trade altcoins; you can set custom alerts for big movements in those specific coins. If a usually quiet token suddenly has a $5 million transfer, you might investigate if there’s news, potentially giving you an information edge. Some traders use whale alerts as confirmation or warning signals to complement technical analysis and other indicators.
  • Risk Management: Whale Alert can help you manage risk by identifying unusual activity. If you’re invested in a project and you start seeing extremely large transfers, it might prompt you to re-evaluate your position. It’s like having an extra set of eyes on the market 24/7; you’ll know if something out of the ordinary is happening.
  • Educational and Fun: Even if you’re not trading actively, Whale Alert is fascinating for crypto enthusiasts. It’s educational to see how cryptocurrency moves around the world in real time. You’ll learn patterns of how markets react to big transfers and get a better understanding of the crypto ecosystem (for instance, learning which exchanges are involved in big movements, how stablecoins flow, etc.). Many enthusiasts simply enjoy following whale alerts as a pulse of the crypto market’s health and activity.
More information on how to use the alerts and analytics can be found on the alerts and analytics pages in the form of Medium articles. Whale Alert does not provide any trading advice on what to buy or sell.

Currently Whale Alert tracks the following blockchains: Bitcoin, Ethereum, Tron, Dogecoin, Algorand, Solana, Polygon, Litcoin, and Bitcoin Cash and we are working on adding more blockchains. You can see which assets are tracked per blockchain by using the cryptocurrency selector on the main and analytics pages.

Currently, analytics are not available for SOL and stablecoins on the Solana blockchain.

Whale Alert provides real-time alerts for large crypto transactions. These include transfers of major cryptocurrencies between wallets and exchanges, as well as special events like minting or burning of tokens (for example, creation of new stablecoins or removal of coins from circulation). By default, Whale Alert focuses on high-value “whale” moves (transactions in the millions of dollars), but with a subscription you can customize the alert values for each coin. Each alert typically includes details such as the amount, the cryptocurrency, the equivalent USD value, the sending and receiving wallets (with names if known, e.g. identifying exchanges), and the time of the transaction. This information gives context about the transaction – for instance, whether a large holder is moving funds to an exchange (potentially to sell) or off an exchange to a private wallet (potentially to hold). By getting these alerts in real time, you can gauge market sentiment shifts or unusual movements that might impact prices.

Subscribers can create their own alert filters with powerful customization options. You can tailor alerts based on criteria like:

  • Specific cryptocurrencies – e.g. get alerts only for Bitcoin or a selection of coins you care about.
  • Transaction size thresholds – e.g. only be notified for transfers larger than a certain USD value that you define (no matter how small or large).
  • Transaction types – for instance, you might track only transfers, or include minting/burning events for stablecoins, or even track special events like tokens being locked or frozen if supported.
  • Dormant wallets - keep an eye on addresses that have been inactive for a long time. Activated rich dormant addresses may have a profound impact on the market. The most famous dormant addresses below to Satoshi himself.
The custom alerts ensure you receive only the information most relevant to your strategy. For example, a small trader might set a lower threshold to catch mid-sized moves in a favorite altcoin, whereas a BTC-focused analyst might only want alerts above $10 million. Setting up a custom alert filter is simple and can be done in a few clicks from the dashboard (no coding required).

In addition to real-time alerts, Whale Alert provides a robust analytics dashboard full of on-chain data insights allowing you to analyze market trends and metrics across 100+ cryptocurrencies in real-time. With a subscription, you can access features such as:

  • Live price charts and historical price data for various coins.
  • On-chain metrics like total transaction volumes, average purchase price (average buy-in cost of holders), HODL time (how long coins are held on average), and Realized Profit/Loss (how much profit holders are taking over a period) These metrics are normally only available to professional analysts.
  • Analytics for stablecoins (e.g. tracking new stablecoin issuance or burns which can indicate market liquidity changes).
  • live AI-powered news ticker that aggregates relevant crypto news in real time (so you see important news alongside on-chain events).
  • Other indicators (and continually evolving analytics) to help identify market risks and opportunities.
All these analytics are integrated into the Whale Alert dashboard, enabling you to spot trends and corroborate what the alerts are telling you. For example, if Whale Alert shows a spike in large transfers of a certain coin, you can immediately check that coin’s analytics page to see if there’s an increase in transaction volume or a change in HODL behavior. This combination of alerts + analytics helps traders make more informed decisions rather than acting on single data points.

Whale Alert makes it convenient to receive notifications in ways that suit your workflow:

  • In-browser notifications: If you’re logged into the Whale Alert web dashboard, you can enable browser notifications. This way, a little pop-up will alert you on your desktop when a whale transaction meeting your criteria occurs, even if you’re doing something else (as long as your browser is open). Mobile alerts: Whale Alert supports push notifications on mobile (iOS/Android).
  • Mobile notifications: while there isn’t a separate Whale Alert mobile app in app stores yet, you can add the Whale Alert web app to your mobile home screen or enable notifications via the mobile web – allowing you to get real-time push alerts on your phone or tablet. This means you can stay updated on the go, just like you would with any app notification.
  • Email or messaging integrations: the Whale Alert websocket can be used to push alerts to custom channels like email, Slack or Telegram using IFTTT. You can find a detailed tutorial on implementing the websocket here.
